Days Like This. Based on research of Airforums, I knew there would be days like this week so I was prepared - sort of:) Don't get me wrong, a bad day in the Airstream, beats a good day in the office by a long shot. I've been getting by without the hot water heater working for a week now; most NM State Parks have hot showers as do RV Parks although I prefer not to spend too much time in the latter. However, Aguirre Springs is pure dry camping - no water and no hookups. Not having hot water for a week is not a problem for me; however, my inverter also decided to quit this week so that left me without power. The solar panels were making energy and my batteries were charged; I just couldn't tap into all this power and I couldn't figure out why. Even thought I used to work in the energy business, I've never been handy with electrical stuff.
Multiple calls to my Airstream dealer as well as to Xantrex, the inverter company, did not result in fixing either the heater or the inverter. So, without power, I decided to come back to town and plug into shore power at an RV Park. The earliest appointment available to fix the heater and inverter is Monday 3/14 in Albuquerque; about 5 hours drive. After taking advantage of a hot shower, laundry, and local grocery shopping, my plan is to camp at State Parks over the next week while I make my way north to Albuquerque.
In the absence of the inverter working, I could have fired up the generator to power the Airstream but for some reason, it didn't feel right. Don't know if it was fear of disturbing the tranquility of the Aguirre Spring campground or just laziness on my part:)
The Zamp Solar monitor shows batteries charged but...
...the Xantrex (inverter) monitor is dead - none of the power generated by the solar panels is available.
