Won Buddhism

I'm spending 3 days at Youngson University of Son Studies in Younggwang South Korea. 'Son" is "Zen" in Japanese. This is a religious school of Won Buddhism, which I learned about during my stay in Maryland this past summer.

Won Buddhism was started 100 years ago (1916) by Master Sot'aesan. The students and faculty have been unbelievably kind and generous with their time and resources, including picking me up at the bus station upon my arrival and providing accommodations. Students took me on nearby walking tours of Master Sot'aesan's birthplace, the site of the first Won Buddhist temple, and other historical sites.

I also participated in morning meditation and yoga. I'm learning a lot and continue to be amazed by the kindness and generosity of the people I meet.
